Aminah Karim Essays (610 words) - DraftNoah Cronbaugh,
Aminah Karim Professor Fargnoli Comm 100 June 15, 2015 Informative Speech Reaction Paper Throughout my life, I have been a very shy person . I have started to break out of my shell. At first I thought this class would be extremely hard for me because I have always had problems speaking in front of people. It is actually easier because we can do everything online so im not as nervous. Brainstorming and creating an outline is very hard for me . The first speech was easier to me because I was talking about myself so it wasn't much thinking involved. It was very hard for me to create my outline . I think the hard part for me was the way the outline was set up. There were many subpoints and a lot of confusion. It was hard for me to memorize my speech because it was on a topic I knew nothing about. I practiced my speech a few times and it got better each time I practiced. Every time I do a new speech I start to feel more confortable in front of the camera. I feel that my speech was very well organized and I made my point . It started to get hard for me at the end because I started to run out of things to talk about . It was very hard for me not to write a persuasive speech because that is what I am used to writing . I would always start to talk about why the National Breast Cancer Foundation was a good foundation . For a moment I didn't know what to write or what to add. It was hard for me to fill out all the subpoints because I couldn't find enough information to write about. I feel like my strongest part of my content is my introduction and my first body paragraph. Those were the strongest because I was able to find great points to talk about . The last two body paragraphs weren't that good for me because I started to run out of things to talk about. I didn't want to start getting off topic trying to find things to say. I learned with this speech that I have to have an attention getter so the audience would be interested . Learning from my last speech I know now that I have to practice more and take my time. When talking about Operation Smile I had to be very serious because it is a serious matter. I had to show the audience that I really care about this Non-For Profit organization. The way I present myself while delivering my speech is very important to me . I have to learn how to relax so my body movements wont be so awkward. I also have to learn when I need to be serious. Reading about all of the things that happen to women with breast cancer helped me to become more serious about the topic. For future speeches, I need to be more on top of my work. I have to work on making outlines and thinking about what to talk about it is always hard for me to brainstorm because if I know nothing about the topic, there is a lot of research I have to do. It was hard for me to stay on topic with the outline because I kept running out of things to talk about. It took me a while to understand the outline because I didn't understand what each subpoint was supposed to represent . In the future I will be more comfortable because I now have all the proper guidelines to make a proper speech.

Proper Punctuation for Parenthetical Phrases
Proper Punctuation for Parenthetical Phrases Proper Punctuation for Parenthetical Phrases Proper Punctuation for Parenthetical Phrases By Mark Nichol Writers often confuse a sentence that contains a parenthetical phrase starting with a conjunction with one that consists of two independent clauses divided by a conjunction, resulting in improper placement of punctuation. Here are a few examples, with discussion and revisions. 1. ââ¬Å"The substance starts off in a higher energy state, and by combining with oxygen, ends up in a lower energy state.â⬠Remove the optional parenthetical phrase ââ¬Å"and by combining with oxygen,â⬠and the resulting grammatically flawed sentence is ââ¬Å"The substance starts off in a higher energy state ends up in a lower energy state.â⬠The conjunction and must precede the first comma to produce the valid construction ââ¬Å"The substance starts off in a higher energy state and ends up in a lower energy stateâ⬠; therefore, the correctly punctuated revision is ââ¬Å"The substance starts off in a higher energy state and, by combining with oxygen, ends up in a lower energy state.â⬠If the original sentence read, ââ¬Å"The substance starts off in a higher energy state, and when it combines with oxygen, it ends up in a lower energy state,â⬠it would be correct. Here, and begins an independent clause (ââ¬Å"and when it combines with oxygen, it ends up in a lower energy stateâ⬠) rather than preceding a parenthetical phrase (ââ¬Å"by combining with oxygenâ⬠) that is followed by a resumption of the main clause (ââ¬Å"ends up in a lower energy stateâ⬠). 2. ââ¬Å"Then the answer is given in more detail, with a fuller explanation, and where possible, some illuminating and fun trivia.â⬠When the parenthesis is omitted, the sentence that remains is ââ¬Å"Then the answer is given in more detail, with a fuller explanation, some illuminating and fun trivia.â⬠As in the previous example, the conjunction and is incorrectly thrown out with the rest of the phrase. (This construction also makes ââ¬Å"with a fuller explanationâ⬠look like a parenthesis, too, rather than the beginning of a dependent clause.) The parenthesis is ââ¬Å"where possible,â⬠not ââ¬Å"and where possible,â⬠so the second comma must follow, not precede, and: ââ¬Å"Then the answer is given in more detail, with a fuller explanation and, where possible, some illuminating and fun trivia.â⬠3. ââ¬Å"Deciduous trees decide to cut and run, or in other words, drop all their leaves at once.â⬠Other conjunctions can be misplaced, too: Here, or is mistakenly situated in the parenthetical phrase, resulting in the framing sentence ââ¬Å"Deciduous trees decide to cut and run drop all their leaves at once.â⬠In this case, however, a comma is necessary before or as well as after it, even though the second half of the sentence is not an independent clause. The phrase ââ¬Å"or, in other words, drop all their leaves at onceâ⬠is an appositive an elaboration that restates another word or phrase to the informal descriptive phrase ââ¬Å"cut and run,â⬠so the proper revision is ââ¬Å"Deciduous trees decide to cut and run, or, in other words, drop all their leaves at once.â⬠(Without the parenthesis, a verbal nudge that the writer is using an amusing turn of phrase, the sentence reads, ââ¬Å"Deciduous trees decide to cut and run, or drop all their leaves at once.â⬠) Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Strategic management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words - 1
Strategic management - Essay Example When looking at the exchange of new developments and the economy which is expanding globally, there are several ways in which the fashion industry can help. Two regions which this is being noted are in India and Mexico. These are two of the fastest growing regions in terms of global expansion, including technology, fashion and other global interests (Lemaire, 2011). The ability to invest within these regions can provide different types of insight into the expansion of corporations within the areas. The country of India was chosen first because of the continuous debates that are appearing in terms of expansion, specifically with retail industries. Currently, India is experiencing a strong inflation from the government. To counter-act this, measures with the government and with developed countries are taking place, specifically by opening the doors to new prospects and economic stimulation. Places such as Wal ââ¬â Mart are bidding to become some of the first retail entities that ar e in India. At the same time, the fashion is growing expansively in areas such as Mumbai and Delhi. Fashion weeks and growth from entertainment entities, such as Bollywood, are continuing to grow expansively and offer more in terms of fashion retail. The movement into developing with the country, as well as the opportunities and prospects within this region are allowing the FDI for fashion retail to be a main opportunity for the country (Chakraborty, 2008). Mexico was also chosen because of the initiatives that are currently taking place within the country. For the past 20 years, Mexico has gone through several changes in development, specifically because of the economic growth and development, political changes and the social movement toward becoming global. While there have been fluctuations in opening or closing the region, the free trade agreements and the initiatives to trade with other regions has allowed the country to begin develop at a rapid pace. Most that are in Mexico ar e now conscious of the global styles and expectations. This has been followed by structural changes within corporations and in society, as well as the continuous movement toward external pressures and opportunities within the country. While the country hasnââ¬â¢t yet developed a strong basis for international sales, there is opportunity because of the large amount of advancement in structure and global perspectives that have taken place through time (Blecker, 2007). Both countries are in a similar position in relation to FDI. Both are developing countries that are undergoing change politically and socially. The doors of both countries are opening, specifically because of free trade agreements, political affiliations and the need to expand in a different direction. This is being followed by the social and cultural awareness that is continuing to take place between both of the countries. For fashion retail, are several opportunities to move in at the beginning of investments and to begin creating a specific affiliation with the growth of the culture and the bridge to globalization that is now taking place in both regions. Strategy Development Directions There are several ways that the strategy for the countries can be developed to further the options for fashion retail. The first strategy considered will be through the theory of the Ansoff Matrix. Table 1 and 2 show how this matrix can be applied to both India and Mexico in terms of
